MTBFA Grom’s Session
This course introduces the concepts of first aid to MTB Groms. It is designed to be a practical session that looks at potential injuries and how to manage the casualty and the trail.
Groms are shown basic CPR, how to manage the unconscious casualty, recognizing a spinal injury and what to do, helping a buddy who is asthmatic or anaphylactic, and managing other injuries that can happen when out riding.
Parents are encouraged to attend, but be prepared to be the crash test dummy, so to speak!!
Riding is factored in to break the session up, but this is not a teaching part of the program, and no responsibility is assumed for the riders during breaks.
Groma are required to wear knee pads, mountain bike-appropriate shoes and clothing, as well as a properly fitting helmet (full face is preferable) if they are going to ride. Gloves and elbow pads are optional but recommended. They are also required to bring enough water for 3-4 hours and snacks.
This is meant to be fun and also educational for all, including me, and I look forward to meeting everyone on the day.
Happy shredding.
